Virginia College Grants and Loans

Virginia Grants

Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant Program (VTAG) Virginia residents attending accredited private, non-profit colleges and universities in Virginia full time may be eligible for this grant. Applicants can not be pursuing a degree in religious training or theological education. Applications may be picked up at the financial aid office of your school and must be submitted by July 31. Applications submitted later may be considered if there are any funds still available. THe grants are renewable as long as the student remains eligible.

Virginia Loans

Southside Virginia Tobacco Scholarship/Loan ProgramThis program provides loans and loan forgiveness for those students from certain counties and cities who promise to return to the area and work full time after graduation. The counties involved are: Amelia, Appomattox, Bedford, Brunswick, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Franklin, Greensville/Emporia, Halifax, Henry, Lunenburg, Lynchburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Prince Edward, Sussex and the cities are: Bedford, Danville and Martinsville. Loans can be as much as $3,000 per school year. They are not renewable, though students may reapply. Each one year of documented full time employment in Southside Virginia will qualify for one year of loan forgiveness. There are other requirements. Virginia Teacher Scholarship/Loan Program (VTSLP) This program is meant to assist Virigina residents who are studying for a degree in areas that have been determined to have a critical shortage. The maximum award is $3720. Applicants must be going to at least the sophomore year and have a minimum 2.7 GPA at a participating Virginia school. There may be other requirements.
