Arkansas ScholarshipsGovernorís Scholars Program These are merit scholarships that are given yearly to at least 75 of Arkansas' outstanding high school graduates. One winner will be selected from each county (winner lives in the county, not necessarily goes to school there). To receive the award, the student must attend an approved Arkansas college or university. Applications can be found at your high school counselor's office and must be submitted by February 1.
Awards can be for as much as $4,000 per year and are renewable as long as the recipient attains a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 by the end of each academic year and completes at least 27 credits the first year and 30 credits each of the following years.
Students receiving the Distinguished Governor's Scholarship can receive up to $10,000 per year towards tuition, mandatory fees, room & board. A 3.25 cumulative GPA is required to renew these scholarships from year to year. If funding is available, up to 250 Governor's Distinguished Scholarships may be awarded.
Arkansas Community Foundation The foundation administers and awards more than 250 scholarships annually to Arkansas students. To search through the ACF scholarships, visit http://www.adhe.edu/divisions/financialaid/Pages/fa_acs.aspx.
Military (formerly MIA/KIA) Dependents Scholarship Program (MDS) This program provides tuition and fees at any Arkansas state college, university or technical institute for anyone whose parent or spouse is MIA, KIA, killed in the course of duty or declared to be 100% permanently disabled due to service connection. There may be other requirements. You can download an application at the Arkansas Higher Ed website. Applications are due by June 1.
Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship (ACS) Starting with the class or 2016, the award for this program depends only on a minimum of 19 on the ACT composite score. For 2016-17, the first year award is $1,000 per academic year and is renewable. For the second and third years, the amount is $4,000 and for the fourth year, the award is $5,000. Students at two year schools are eligible for $1,000 the first year and $3,000 the second. Scholarship application deadline is June 1. Second Effort Scholarships So you didn't graduate from High School and just received your GED. Here is a scholarship just for you. The top ten scorers in each year's Arkansas High School Diploma test have the chance to receive up to a $1,000 scholarship. You don't even have to apply. The top scorers will be notified. The scholarships are renewable contingent upon the student maintaining at minimum, a 2.5 GPA each year.
