Alaska ScholarshipsGEAR UP ALASKA Scholarship Program These scholarships are for those students who participated in the GEAR Up program in 6th, 7th and 8th grades.They can be for up to $7000 per year. The federal government provides the funding and the state handles the disbursement. Applicants must complete the FAFSA as well as submitting a GEAR UP ALASKA application postmarked by May 31. The federal grant used to fund the GEAR UP Alaska Scholarship has been exhaustedso it is unlikely that these awards will be made for the 2011/2012 academic year.Alaska Performance Scholarship Created in 2010, these awards are to be available beginning with the high school class of 2011. These scholarships can be used at any regionally accredited college or university in Alaska, or for approved career/technical education programs within Alaska. Students can qualify for the Alaska Performance Scholarships based on their high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores. Awards can range from $2378 to $4755 per year and can be renewable for up to eight semesters. For more information and requirements, visit the Alaska Performance Scholarship page. Alaska Library Association Scholarship This scholarship is to provide financial assistance to worthy graduate students pursuing a Masters Degree in Library and Information Studies and to encourage graduates to return to Alaska to work in professional library positions. Preference given to individuals meeting the federal definition of Alaska Native ethnicity. Applicant must be a member of the Alaska Library Association. There are from one to three scholarships given each year and the amounts can range from $1,000 to $3,000.
