Application is done by filing the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1. Iowa LoansIowa Student Loan Teacher Educational Loan Forgiveness Program This is a brand new program that will forgive loans for Iowa teachers who will stay in the state and teach science, math and other areas with a teacher shortage. Those applying this year could receive up to $9,000 forgiveness over five years.Iowa Teacher Shortage Forgivable Loan Program Iowa residents attending an eligible Iowa college or university beyond freshman year, enrolled at least half-time in an accredited education program leading to a degree and certification for teaching in a shortage area may be eligible. Loans of up to $3,000 per academic year ($1,500 per semester) with a $9,000 limit may be forgivable to those teachers who stay in Iowa and teach in designated shortage areas. They will be forgiven at the rate of 20% per year for up to 5 years. Partnership Loan by Iowa Student Loan This is a private education loan through the Iowa Student Loan for students who are Iowa residents or attending an eligible Iowa school. It is available to students from Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, Colorado or Wisconsin. There are two versions, depending on the school you are attending.
