Louisiana 529 College Savings PlanLouisiana (START) Saving ProgramLouisiana provides it's residents a way to save for college with the The Student Tuition Assistance and Revenue Trust Program, also known as the START Saving Program. The program is administered by the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance and is directed by the Louisiana Tuition Trust Authority (LATTA). Anyone can open a Louisiana 529 START Program, but either the owner or the beneficiary must be a Louisiana resident.As an incentive, Louisiana will match up to 14% of deposits each year, depending on the account category and the adjusted gross income reported by the account owner that year. Additionally, account owners who are Louisiana taxpayers can deduct from their taxable income up to $2,400.00 per year, per account. If you can't use the entire amount, it can be used in future years. Earnings from the START Savings Program grows Federal and state tax deferred and when used for approved educational expenses, the funds are also Federal and State tax free.
